Midnight Crochet Hat
Lion Brand® Hometown USA®
GAUGE: 6 sts + 5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: 1. Hat is worked back and forth in rows, from lower edge upwards. The sts of the last row are gathered for top of Hat, then sides of piece are sewn tog for back seam.
2. If you prefer, Hat can be worked in the rnd - eliminating the seam. To work the Hat in the rnd, leave a 6 in. (15 cm) yarn tail and ch 29. Work Row 1 following instructions for Hat below. At the end of this row, join your last st to the first with a sl st to make a ring.
You will now work the Hat in rnds.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * around, at the end of the rnd join your last st to the first with a sl st. Rep Rnd 2 until Hat measures about 9 in. (23 cm).
Fasten off and gather the top of the Hat same as for the Hat worked in rows. Use beg yarn tail to sew beg and end of the first row tog.

| Sounds like a plan! My left handed crochet partner is whipping hats and caps for the preemies in our local hospital, and I am having trouble figuring out how to copy her. The instructions make sense to me, now I just have to get started and see if I can whip up a cute midnight crochet hat, perhaps striking Navy color! thanks...
