GAUGE: 12 dc + 7 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | dc2tog (dc 2 sts tog) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops. Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook - 1 st decreased. |
NOTES: 1. Ribbing for wrist edge of Mitten is worked back and forth in rows. The short ends of Ribbing are crocheted tog to form a tube. Sts are worked around one edge of the Ribbing, and the Mitten is worked upwards from the Ribbing.
2. Mitten is worked in joined rounds. Do not turn rnds. The beginning ch-2 is not counted as a st. Always work the first st of a rnd in the first dc, not into the top of the ch-2.
3. About half way up Mitten, sts are left unworked for thumb opening. St are worked around this opening, upwards to form thumb.
