Crochet Grass Rug
Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Chunky - Wool-Ease®
GAUGE:
9 loops = 8 in. (20.5 cm) in pattern with 5 strands of yarn held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
Front Loop Stitch: Insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop; form a loop in front of work as follows: Bring working yarn to the front; hold working yarn with finger or thumb of hand holding the hook. Leaving a loop of yarn in the front, bring working yarn to back of work. Insert hook in same st and draw up a loop – 3 loops on hook. Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook to complete the st and lock the loop in place.
Back Loop Stitch: Insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop; form a loop in back of work as follows: Working yarn should be at back of work, hold working yarn with finger or thumb of hand holding the hook. Leaving a loop of yarn in the back, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop – 3 loops on hook. Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook to complete the st and lock the loop in place.
NOTES:
1. Rug is worked with 5 strands of yarn held tog throughout, 2 strands of A + 2 strands of B + 1 strand of C.
2. Length of "grass" is controlled by the length of the loop sts. Make the loop sts as long or as short as desired. If you make very long loops, additional yarn may be required.
3. When working loop sts, hold the working yarn with the fingers or thumb of the hand holding the hook. You may find it comfortable to hold the loop between the thumb or fingers and the hook.
RUG
With 2 strands A, 2 strands B, and 1 strand C held tog, ch 26.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 25 sc.
Row 2 (Right Side): Ch 1, turn, Front Loop st in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, Back Loop st in each st across.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures about 30 in. (76 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends. Cut loops. Trim to make rug look like grass.

Very fun to make and its fairly quick. The words for the pattern on how to do the loops are kinda confusing and the back loop needs to be reworded because if you do it how they do it they can come undone. I did a practice piece before making the full rug and you have to switch the loops (that you will cut) from the hook hand to the other hand for the last stich (the one that ties it all into place). But if you take it slow and do it as you read it its easy. I made a bigger one than what the pattern called for and I am making little ones for my boys.
