Calm Green Throw

Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

One Square = 9 x 9 in. (23 x 23 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Beg CL (Beginning Cluster) Ch 4, (yarn over) twice, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice. *(Yarn over) twice, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice; rep from * once more, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
CL (Cluster) (Yarn over) twice, insert hook in indicated st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice. *(Yarn over) twice, insert hook in same st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice; rep from * 2 more times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

NOTES:

1. Throw is made from 30 Squares - 6 each of Squares 1-5.
2. Squares are worked in joined rnds, always with RS facing.


SQUARE 1 (make 6)
With A, ch 8; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Beg Cl in ring, ch 4, *CL in ring, ch 4; rep from * 6 more times; join with sl st in top of Beg Cl - 8 clusters and 8 ch-4 sp at the end of this rnd. Fasten off A.
Rnd 2: From RS, join B with sl st in any ch-4 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 3 dc in same ch-4 sp, 4 dc in next ch-4 sp, ch 6, *4 dc in next 2 ch-4 sp, ch 6; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - 32 dc and 4 ch-6 sp at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-6 sp, *dc in next 8 dc, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-6 sp; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - 64 dc and 4 ch-3 sp at the end of this rnd. Fasten off B.
Rnd 4: From RS, join C with sl st in any ch-3 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same ch-3 sp, dc in next 14 dc, *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp, dc in next 14 dc; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 72 dc and 4 ch-3 sp at the end of this rnd. Fasten off C.
Rnd 5: From RS, join D with sl st in any dc, ch 1, sc in same dc and each dc around, working (2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc) in each ch-3 sp; join with sl st in first sc - 88 sc and 4 ch-1 sp at the end of this rnd. Fasten off D.

SQUARE 2 (make 6)
Make same as Square 1, working Rnd 1 with B, Rnds 2 and 3 with C, Rnd 4 with D, and Rnd 5 with E.

SQUARE 3 (make 6)
Make same as Square 1, working Rnd 1 with C, Rnds 2 and 3 with D, Rnd 4 with E, and Rnd 5 with A.

SQUARE 4 (make 6)
Make same as Square 1, working Rnd 1 with D, Rnds 2 and 3 with E, Rnd 4 with A, and Rnd 5 with B.

SQUARE 5 (make 6)
Make same as Square 1, working Rnd 1 with E, Rnds 2 and 3 with A, Rnd 4 with B, and Rnd 5 with C.

FINISHING
With A, and following Diagram, sew Squares into 5 strips of 6 Squares each. Seam strips to make Throw.
Edging
From RS, join D with sl st in any st along outside edge of Afghan.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work sc evenly spaced around Throw, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center st at each corner; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Very easy to make and turned out really well. It's a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but it's not like I was expecting a blanket or anything. I used completely different colors, but it's still very pretty.
