Granny Square Throw

Lion Brand« Amazing®

GAUGE:

One Granny Square = 10 x 10 in. (25 x 25 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Throw is made of 20 Squares joined into 5 rows of 4 squares each.
2. The Squares are joined by working surface sl st in a zig-zag pattern, back and forth between the edges of adjoining Squares. If you'd rather, Squares can be sewn together.
3. To keep Granny Squares square, join new color in a different corner of each rnd.
4. Granny Squares are worked in rnds, with RS facing. Do not turn at the beg of rnds. Always join new colors with the RS Square facing.

GRANNY SQUARE (make 20)
With A, ch 3; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

FINISHING
Arrange Granny Squares in 5 rows of 4 Granny Squares each.
Surface Slip Stitch Join
Note:
Use yarn B, C or D as desired.
Join the edges of adjoining Squares, as follows:
1. Make a slip knot, but do not place the knot on your hook.
2. Insert hook from RS to WS through edge of first Square.
3. Place the slip knot on hook and draw loop to RS (keeping beg tail and working yarn on WS).
4. *Insert hook from RS to WS through edge of adjoining Square, yarn over, draw loop through Square and through loop on hook (surface sl st made), insert hook from RS to WS through first Square, yarn over, draw loop through Square and through loop on hook; rep from * across, zig-zagging back and forth between the two Squares to join.
5. Fasten off, or continue working surface sl st join across next two adjoining Squares.
Rep steps 1-5 until all Squares are joined.

Note: To end a section of surface sl sts, remove hook from loop. Insert hook from WS to RS, place loop on hook, draw loop through to WS. Cut yarn. Draw yarn tail through remaining loop to fasten off.

I LOVE Amazing yarn!! I have made many scarves using the different color choices available. This was the first time I made a Granny Square afghan. It was so easy to do and it was really quick to put together. I found that I didn't want to stop crocheting the squares because I couldn't wait to see what the next color combination would look like!
Thanks Lion Brand!
