GAUGE: 6 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Chain 29.
Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, double crochet in next chain, *single crochet in next chain, double crochet in next chain; repeat from * across, end with a double crochet in last chain – an even number of stitches.
Row 2: Chain 1, turn, *single crochet in next double crochet, double crochet in next single crochet; repeat from * across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Seam ends together. Thread yarn through each stitch of last row and pull to gather for top of Hat. Knot securely. Weave in ends.
Following package directions, make a pom-pom and tie to top of Hat.

| I had to add at least 20 stitches too. It would have never fit my head with the instructions. It came out pretty nice. I will definitely make more. Lost a star because of the stitch count. Fortunately, I'm not a real beginner who wouldn't know how to adjust the pattern.
