Heather Brown Cardigan
Lion Brand® LB Collection® Baby Alpaca
GAUGE: 17 sts + 23 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS), with 2 strands of yarn held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
M1P (make 1 st as if to purl) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Purl this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.
STRIPE PATTERNS
Notes
1. All rows are worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog. When only 1 color is indicated for a row, work with 2 strands of that color.
2. Stripe Pattern includes enough rows for the largest size Cardigan, so will not need to be repeated.
3. The colors in the Stripe Pattern are quite similar. Don't worry too much if you work a row or two with a different color!

NOTES: 1. Back, Fronts and Sleeves are worked back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
2. Cardigan is worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog throughout. When using 2 strands of the same color, work from 2 balls of yarn or work from the inside and outside of the same ball.
3. When only 1 color is listed for a row in the Stripe Pattern, use 2 strands of that color.
4. The number of rows given in each Stripe Pattern will make the largest size; for smaller sizes, you may not have completed all the rows in the Stripe Pattern when your piece measures the desired length.
5. Leave yarn tails of about 6 in. (15 cm) when changing colors. Weave in tails when knitting has been completed.
6. 'Work even' in the pattern means to work without increasing or decreasing.
