Felted Loops Bag
Lion Brand® Fishermen's Wool®
GAUGE: 16 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) before felting.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.
The above gauge is provided as a reference - the felting process will affect the finished size.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: 1. Due to the nature of the felting process, the size of your finished Bag may vary.
2. Bag is worked in four separate pieces: Body, Base, and 2 Handles with loops created by working groups of sts with separate balls of yarn.
3. Bag is assembled, then felted.
4. Pattern is designed to encourage creativity. Use this pattern as inspiration, your Bag may not be exactly the same as that in the photo. During felting process, pull the loops into sculptural shapes as desired.

BODY
Cast on 60 sts.
Beg with a purl (WS) row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 5 rows.
First Loop Section
Notes:
1. Loops are created by working the sts in 3 separate sections of 20 sts each. Each section is knit with a separate ball of yarn. After knitting the first 20 sts, drop but do not cut the first ball of yarn, you will pick up this ball again on the next row. Join a 2nd ball of yarn and knit the next 20 sts, drop but do not cut the 2nd ball of yarn. Join a 3rd ball of yarn and knit the last 20 sts.
2. To join the additional balls of yarn, leave a long beg tail and start knitting. Gently pull on the beg tail to tighten the first st, as needed.
3. Avoid tangling the balls of yarn when turning the work.
4. When dropping one strand of yarn and picking up the next, take care not to twist the 2 strands of yarn.
Row 1: K20, join a 2nd ball of yarn and k next 20 sts; join a 3rd ball of yarn and k last 20 sts.
Row 2: P20, *drop working yarn and pick up yarn from next ball, p20; rep from * once more.
Row 3: K20, *drop working yarn and pick up yarn from next ball; rep from * once more.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Rows 5-26: Rep Rows 3 and 4, working each section separately with its own ball of yarn.
Leaving long tails, cut the 2nd and 3rd balls of yarn.
The next rows are worked with the first ball only.
Row 27: Knit.
Row 28: Purl.
Rows 29 and 30: Rep Rows 27 and 28.
Do not bind off, continue to Second Loop Section.
Second Loop Section
Note: The Second Loop Section is worked in the same way as the First Loop Section, except that four separate sections are worked.
The first and last sections have 10 sts each, and the center two sections have 20 sts each.
Row 1: K10, join a 2nd ball of yarn and k next 20 sts; join a 3rd ball of yarn and k next 20 sts; join a 4th ball of yarn and k last 10 sts.
Row 2: P10, *drop working yarn and pick up yarn from next ball, p20; rep from * once more, drop working yarn and pick up yarn from next ball, p10.
Row 3: K10, *drop working yarn and pick up yarn from next ball, k20; rep from * once more, drop working yarn and pick up yarn from next ball, k10.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Rows 5-26: Rep Rows 3 and 4, working each section separately with its own ball of yarn.
Leaving long tails, cut the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th balls of yarn.
The next rows are worked with the first ball only.
Row 27: Knit.
Row 28: Purl.
Rows 29 and 30: Rep Rows 27 and 28.
Do not bind off, continue to next Loop Section.
Third-Fourteenth Loop Sections
Beg with Row 1 of First Loop Section, rep First Loop and Second Loop Sections 6 more times, for a total of 14 Loop Sections.
When Fourteenth Loop Section has been completed, bind off. Sew ends of Body together to form a tube.
BASE
Cast on 74 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures about 20 in. (51 cm) from beg. Bind off.
HANDLES (make 2)
Cast on 14 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures about 18 in. (45.5 cm) from beg. Bind off.
Note: During the felting process, edges of Handles will roll naturally to reinforce handles.
FINISHING
Sew Body to Base. Sew Handles to Body.
Note: The felting process will smooth out any imperfections or unevenness.
Weave in ends.
Felting
Note: Before the felting process, the Bag will be a large cylinder with slit openings.
After felting, pull the strips of knitting between the slits to create loops.
If desired, use binder clips or clothespins to hold the base of each loop together until the Bag is completely dry.
The felted Bag will be open along the base of each Loop. Bag is meant to be used to hold large, lightweight objects, much like a mesh market bag.
Wash Bag by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull into shape. Allow to dry completely.

| Do not waste your time! I agree with the review above. My bag had holes and not loops. I followed the instructions VERY carefully too! This was my second bag I tried from this collection. I don't know what I was thinking, maybe this would be different. Well, I wasted the same amount of time and money! If you want to throw $40 away to do this pattern, don't say you wasn't warned.
