Napkin Rings

Lion Brand« Fishermen's Wool®

GAUGE:

13 sc = about 4 in. (10 cm) before felting.
EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO THIS PROJECT.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

1. Completed Leaves and Rings are lightly felted by hand.
2. Instructions are for a set of 6 Napkin Rings; materials are sufficient to make additional Napkin Rings.

LEAF (make 6 - 2 each with A, B, and C)
Ch 3.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch - 2 sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Rows 3-6 (Increase): Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc - 10 sc at the end of Row 6.
Rows 7-11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Row 12: Turn, sl st in first 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc; leave remaining sts unworked - 6 sc at the end of this row.
Row 13: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each sc across; leave the sl sts unworked - 5 sc at the end of this row.
Rows 14-17: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each sc across - 1 sc at the end of Row 17.
Fasten off.

RING (make 6)
With D, ch 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 5 sc at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 6 in. (15 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Felting
Fill sink with hot water and small amount of liquid soap (hand or dish soap or even shampoo will work).
Wearing rubber gloves, submerge Leaves and Rings in soapy water.
Rub surface of knit fabric, working over entire surface until sts begin to lose their definition. Rinse gently to remove soap. Allow to dry.

With desired yarn color, embroider straight st leaf vein details on Leaves. Seam ends of Rings. Sew a Leaf to each Ring, over the seam.
