GAUGE:
16 sts + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
kfbf (knit into front, then back, and front again)
A double increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st, and do not remove the st from the left hand needle.
3. Knit the same st again, this time inserting your needle through the front loop again. You will have created 3 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
4. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 2 sts. kfb (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st. ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

Sweet and simple pattern, which I thank you for. What I would suggest though is to pick up the stitches for the sleeves from back and front pieces (separating them equally) and work the sleeves in a round(either using the magic loop method or double pointed needles). That way we avoid sewing.I am knitting it for my daughter and I hope she will look delightful.I also made all the borders in a contrast colors as well as parts of the sleeves.
