16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
Pattern is designed to encourage creativity with freeform embroidery. Change color as desired for embroidery.
SCARF
With A, cast on 48 sts. Divide sts onto 3 double pointed needles and join, being careful not to twist.
Work in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures about 42 in. (106.5 cm) from beg.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Flatten Scarf to form a 6 x 42 in. (15 x 106.5 cm) rectangle.
Seam each end of Scarf closed.
With B and C, and working through both layers, embroider straight sts onto Scarf. To make even rows of straight sts, follow columns of knit sts.
Weave in ends.

I LOVED making this scarf! It was one of my first experiences knitting in the round and I could not have been happier with it! I really like the flexibility of it (I have made it as written and a narrower version) and the ability to show off some embroidery is awesome! I think if I were to make the as-written one again, I would use three skeins instead of two, I like to be able to really bundle up in my scarves.
