GAUGE:
15 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
sk2p Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2tog, pass slipped stitch over - 2 sts decreased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.
PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib worked in the rnd (over an even number of sts)
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to around. Rnd 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Rnd 2 for K1, p1 Rib worked in the rnd.
CAP
With circular needle, cast on 60 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib worked in the rnd until piece measures 2 in. (5 cm) from beg. Rnd 1: *K1, p3; rep from * around.
Notes:
1. Beginning on Rnd 2, you will be working yarn overs. A yarn over (yo) creates a new loop on your needle and is worked by wrapping the yarn around your right hand needle. Do not use an existing stitch to make a yarn over. The finished yarn over will leave an open space (like an eyelet) in your knitting-that is part of this design.
2. St count will increase on Rnds 2 and 4, then decrease on Rnds 6 and 8. Be sure to count your sts at the end of each rnd.
Rnd 2: *K1, yo, p3, yo; rep from * around - 90 sts at the end of this rnd. Rnd 3: K2, p3, *k3, p3; rep from * to last st, k1 - 90 sts (st count does not change on this rnd). Rnd 4: *K1, yo, k1, p3, k1, yo; rep from * around - 120 sts at the end of this rnd. Rnd 5: K3, p3, *k5, p3; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2 - 120 sts. Rnd 6: *K1, k2tog, p3, ssk; rep from * around - 90 sts at the end of this rnd. Rnd 7: K2, p3, *k3, p3; rep from * to last st, k1 - 90 sts. Rnd 8: K2tog, p3, *sk2p, p3; rep from * to last st, sl the last st, remove beg of rnd marker, sl the first k2tog (the one you worked at the beg of this rnd) to right needle, pass slipped st over the k2tog, sl the k2tog back to left needle and replace the beg of rnd marker - 60 sts at the end of this rnd.
Rep Rnds 1-8 three more times, then rep Rnds 1-6 once more.
Shape Crown
Rnd 1: K2, p2tog, p1, *k3, p2tog, p1; rep from * to last st, k1 - 75 sts at the end of this rnd. Note: Change to double pointed needles when working Rnd 2. Rnd 2: K2tog, p2, *sk2p, p2; rep from * to last st, sl the last st, remove beg of rnd marker, sl the first k2tog (the one you worked at the beg of this rnd) to right needle, pass slipped st over the k2tog, sl the k2tog back to left needle and replace the beg of rnd marker - 45 sts at the end of this rnd. Rnd 3: *K1, p2tog; rep from * around - 30 sts. Rnd 4: *P2tog; rep from * around - 15 sts remain at the end of this rnd.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.

Plum Perfect Hat Reviewed by A Lewis on 2012-06-15
This was very easy and came out perfect. I used Wool-ease that I had left over from another project and the fit was great. Can't wait to wear this in the winter time. Planning on crocheting a flower or two to add on for embellishment.
