GAUGE:

28 sts + 36 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1P (make 1 st as if to purl) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Purl this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased. Inc6 (increase 6) (K1, p1) 3 times into next st without removing st from needle, then k1 in same st - 6 sts increased (7 sts made from one st).   PATTERN STITCH Raised Leaves (multiple of 6 sts) Rnd 1: *K1 tbl, p5; rep from * around. Rnd 2: *K1 tbl, p2, Inc6 in next st, p2; rep from * around. Rnd 3: *K1 tbl, p2, k7 tbl (the 7 sts from preceding rnd), p2; rep from * around. Note: Rnds 4-9 will decrease the sts created on Rnd 2. When Rnd 9 has been completed, you will return to the original number of sts. Rnd 4: *K1 tbl, p2, k5, k2tog, p2; rep from * around. Rnd 5: *K1 tbl, p2, k4, k2tog, p2; rep from * around. Rnd 6: *K1 tbl, p2, k3, k2tog, p2; rep from * around. Rnd 7: *K1 tbl, p2, k2, k2tog, p2; rep from * around. Rnd 8: *K1 tbl, p2, k1, k2tog, p2; rep from * around. 1. Work Raised Leaves pattern from Chart OR from written instructions below.
2. Place a stitch marker between each repeat of the Raised Leaves pattern; using a different color stitch marker from the beg of rnd marker.
3. Increased sts for thumb are NOT shown on chart; follow instructions below to shape thumb.

MITT (make 2)
Cast on 48 sts. Divide sts onto double pointed needles as follows: 12 sts on first needle, 24 sts on 2nd needle, and 12 sts on 3rd needle. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Rep 6-sts of Rnd 1 of Raised Leaves pattern 8 times around.
Continue in Raised Leaves as established until Rnds 1-9 of pattern have been worked a total of 4 times.

Note: Sts are increased over Rnds 2-13 then bound off in Row 14 to create thumb.
