GAUGE:
12 hdc + 10 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
dc3tog (dc 3 sts together) Yarn over, insert hook into st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops. (Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook - 2 sts decreased.
CARDIGAN
BACK
With B, ch 31 (33, 36, 39). Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as hdc) and in each ch across - 30 (32, 35, 38) sts at the end of this row. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 9 1/2 (10 1/2, 11 1/2, 13) in. (24 (26.5, 29, 33) cm) from beg.
Fasten off.
FRONTS (make 2)
With B, ch 19 (20, 21, 23). Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as hdc) and in each ch across - 18 (19, 20, 22) sts at the end of this row. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures same as Back.
Fasten off.
SLEEVE (make 2)
With C, ch 25 (28, 31, 34). Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as hdc) and in each ch across - 24 (27, 30, 33) sts at the end of this row. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 5 (5 1/2, 6 1/2, 7 1/2) in. (12.5 (14, 16.5, 19) cm) from beg.
Fasten off.
HOOD
With A, ch 46 (49, 52, 55). Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beg ch counts as hdc) and in each ch across - 45 (48, 51, 54) sts at the end of this row. Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), turn, hdc in each st across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures 6 (6 1/2, 7, 7 1/2) in. (15 (16.5, 18, 19) cm) from beg.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Seam shoulders for 2 1/2 (2 1/2, 2 3/4, 3) in. (6.5 (6.5, 7, 7.5) cm) as shown on diagram; leaving 5 (5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2) in. (12.5 (14, 15, 16.5) cm) unseamed for Back neck. Place markers on neck edge, 1 in. (2.5 cm) from Front edges. Sew Hood, along foundation ch between markers, easing to fit. Sew top edges of Hood together.
Place markers 4 (4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2) in. (10 (11.5, 12.5, 14) cm down from shoulders on Fronts and on Back. Sew Sleeves between markers. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Sew buttons to Right Front, using spaces between sts for buttonholes. Weave in ends.

With A, ch 104. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, *dc in each of next 3 ch, dc3tog, dc in next 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch; rep from * 8 more times, dc in next 3 ch, dc3tog, dc in next 3 ch, 2 dc in last ch - 10 ripples. Row 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in first dc, *dc in next 3 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 3 dc, 3 dc in next dc; rep from * 8 more times, dc in next 3 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in top of turning ch.
Rep Row 2, continuing in Stripe Sequence as established, until all 68 rows have been worked.
Fasten off. Note: Piece should measure about 45 in. (114.5 cm) from beg.
