Dachshund Balloon Animal
Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice® Baby
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | Kfb (knit in front and then back) Knit into front and then back of same st - 1 st increased.
|
NOTES: Dachshund is worked by knitting a long strip. The strip is seamed to make a tube, then stuffed. The stuffed tube is tied off with yarn at various points to shape the Dachshund – a construction inspired by twisting balloons to make animals.

Shaping
Notes
1. Refer to diagram for placement of ties.
2. If desired, after wrapping and tying, you can sew a few stitches to secure the shaping.
Cut 12 in. (30.5 cm) lengths of A for ties. Wrap each length around stuffed tube and knot securely, placing lengths as follows:
1. Wrap and tie first length about 5 in. (12.5 cm) from cast on edge to make head.
2. Wrap and tie 4 in. (10 cm) from first tie for first ear.
3. Wrap and tie 4 in. (10 cm) from first ear tie for second ear.
4. Wrap and tie 3 in. (7.5 cm) from second ear tie for neck.
5. Wrap and tie 2 in. (5 cm) from neck tie for first front leg.
6. Wrap and tie 2 in. (5 cm) from first leg tie for second front leg.
7. Tie ears together under head, skip the neck section, then tie the front legs together under the ears/head.
8. Wrap and tie 2 1/2 in (6.5 cm) from bound off end of tube for tail.
9. For first back leg, wrap and tie 2 in. (5 cm) from tail tie. For second back leg, wrap and tie 2 in. (5 cm) from first back leg tie. Wrap and tie back legs together under body.
With pink yarn, embroider a straight st smile onto head.
Weave in ends.

| I just knit a very small version. I think having an idea how balloon dogs are made might help those who had difficulties. Even my DH (with two left hands) can do it! Although of course we are tying and sewing it rather than letting the rubber/knit hold itself: http://www.cheekotheclown.co.uk/balloons.htm
