| This simple beaded bookmark is inexpensive, easy to make and is a great little gift or a party favor. It would be perfect for Mother's Day with a good book. If you are giving someone a book, make one with beads that are appropriate to the topic and include it for a special touch! |

| | Additional Materials
- Beading needle
- Purchased beads or jewelry findings of your choice (make sure the center holes of your beads are large enough for the
needle and glitterspun to pass through.)
Note: You may, if you wish, simply trim the yarn to a tapered point, then brush nail polish on it. When dry, it will be stiff enough to thread through the beads and you won't need the beading needle! |

BOOKMARK
Cut a piece of yarn to the length of the book you will be using it on plus 6 inches (15
cm). For our textbooks, this was 18 inches (46); for paperbacks, 12 inches (30 cm) is
plenty!
Thread the yarn through the beading needle. Because it can be flattened, it is easier to
use than many yarns. At the end, tie the yarn securely in a knot so the beads cannot come off. You can put
a dab of glue on it to make sure the knot does not come out. Tie another knot above the beads so they don't slide
around. You can also secure the yarn by using the type of crimp fittings that are used in making beaded necklaces to hold the yarn. |

I first saw these kind of bookmarks in a bookstore. They were called "Book Thongs" (cute, huh?)
Anyway, that year, I made them for all of my family, friends and co-workers.
I placed pretty beads on the top and the bottom...leaving just the string itself that gets closed in the book. That way, the binding of the book doesn't get bent.!!!
