Making Pom-Poms - Classic or Felted

Lion Brand® Lion® Wool

GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

LARGE POM-POM
If you have a pom-pom maker, simply use it to make a 2-inch [5 cm] pom-pom of mixed (A) and (B).

If you do not have a pom-pom maker, holding one strand of A and one of B together, wrap them around the short width of the 2 x 4 cardboard – the more wraps, the fuller the pom-pom will be. We used 30 wraps in the pom-pom shown. Slide a doubled strand of B under center of wraps and knot. Clip loops; remove cardboard. Fluff pom-pom and trim ends evenly. Use the ends of the knotted strand to attach pom-pom to duffle bag

SMALL FELTED POM-POMS
Pom-poms made of wool yarn can be felted. Two 1.5 inch [3.8 cm] pom-poms were used (we made two red ones).

To create felted pom-poms, simply make small standard pom-poms with yarn that is about 1.5 inches [3.8 cm] in length. Use the standard pom-pom maker or a piece of cardboard 1.5 inches x 4 inches [3.8 cm x 10 cm], wrapping the yarn on the short direction of the cardboard. Tie tightly, leaving a long tail.

To felt the pom-poms, simply put them through the wash with any load of laundry that is being washed in hot water. Trim the pom-poms to a round shape and a size that you like (they tend to be a little scraggly after being felted. If they are too scraggly, trim them and toss back into the washer for another cycle to correct the problem.) Thread their tails with the unfelted pom-pom and tie to the object you want to identify.

Making Pom-Poms - Classic or Felted Reviewed by valerie moseley on 2010-12-16 *****
Really easy to make . I wrap my cardboard 60 times nice full PomPoms
Not a good idea for babies clothing as the fibers can come loose and choke babies.
