Spool-Knit Shamrock Hot Pad
Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
NOTES: Cord for Hot Pad is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout; gauge is not critical.

HOT PAD
With 2 strands held together (use both ends of skein) and leaving 16” tails at both ends, make a 24 in [61 cm] cord. Cut yarn and fasten off. Make another cord 44 in [112 cm] long, leaving 20 in [50 cm] tails at both ends.

Fold the longer piece in half and mark center with scrap yarn. Thread a tail onto the needle. Coil the cord and sew in place. Stop coiling when you reach the marker and secure the sewing yarn.
Remove the yarn marker
Hint: If you run out of yarn to sew with, make the knot in a
place where it will be in the middle of the coil and no one will know!

| Starting at the other end, coil and sew in the opposite
direction. When you are done, the piece will look rather like
the character 'S', coiled tightly. Note that there is a loose
end of yarn in the center of each coil Do not remove these -- they
will be needed later in the project! |

| Coil and sew the remaining cord until the coil is as large as the other ones. There will be some extra which will become the stem of our shamrock. |

| Sew the coils together to form the shamrock. Thread the remaining yarn onto the needle and sew from the center of the coil, through the coil to the edge of the shamrock. Turn the needle and sew back into the center. Pull the yarn tight to form the 'dimple' in the middle of each of the leaves. Tie off the yarn.

| you do realize that the lucky 4-leave clover is the Irish luck?? But an interesting icord project. Am going to try for the fourth leaf. Several pieces but is a easp put together.
