Sunrise Stripes Pullover

Lion Brand« Baby Wool

GAUGE:

16 sts + 22 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

STRIPE SEQUENCE
*Work 8 rnds with C, 8 rnds with A, 8 rnds with B; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.

NOTES:

1. Pullover is worked in one piece from neck down; sts for sleeves are picked up around armhole edge.
2. We recommend that you cut yarn when changing color; carrying color(s) not in use along wrong side of work between stripes will result in long strands that might catch on child's fingers.
3. A yarn over (yo) creates a new loop on your needle and is worked by wrapping the yarn around your right hand needle. Do not use an existing stitch to make a yarn over. The finished yarn over will leave an open space (like an eyelet) in your knitting - this is part of this design.

PULLOVER
With double pointed needles and B, loosely cast on 44 (48, 52) sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles as follows: 16 (17, 18) sts for front on needle #1, 6 (7, 8) sts for sleeve on needle #2, 16 (17, 18) sts for back on needle #3, and 6 (7, 8) sts for sleeve on needle #4. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: Purl.
Change to C.
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: *K1, yo, k to last st on this needle, yo, k1; rep from * on each needle around - 52 (56, 60) sts at the end of this rnd.
Continue in Stripe pattern as established and rep last 2 rnds until there are 124 (136, 156) sts.
Note: When sts have been sufficiently increased, change to circular needle, placing 3 additional markers (in a color or design different from the beg of rnd marker) - first marker after front sts on needle #1, 2nd marker after sleeve sts on needle #2, 3rd marker after back sts on needle #3. Beg of rnd marker remains in place.

Divide for Body and Sleeves
Dividing Rnd:
*Knit across 36 (39, 44) sts, slip next 26 (29, 34) sts to a holder for sleeve, cast on 4 sts for underarm; rep from * once more - 80 (86, 96) sts at the end of this rnd for body.
Work even in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) and Stripe Sequence as established over body sts until piece measures about 5 1/2 (6, 6 1/2) in. (14 (15, 16.5) cm) from Dividing Rnd, end by completing the 8th rnd of any color in the Stripe Sequence.
Change to next color of Stripe Sequence.
Next Rnd: Purl.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: Purl.
Bind off.

Sleeves
Rnd 1:
From RS, with double pointed needles and same color used in Dividing Rnd of body, pick up and k4 sts across underarm, then knit sleeve sts from holder - 30 (33, 38) sts at the end of this rnd. Place marker for beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist sts.
Continue in St st and Stripe Sequence as established.
Rnd 2: K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 - 28 (31, 36) sts at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 2 - 26 (29, 34) sts.
Work in St st and Stripe Sequence as established until sleeve measures 5 (5 1/2, 5 1/2) in. (12.5 (14, 14) cm) from Dividing Rnd, end by completing the 8th rnd of any color.
Change to next color of Stripe Sequence.
Next Rnd: Purl.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Next Rnd: Purl.
Bind off. Work second sleeve in same way.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

Great pattern!

Done many times to donate for Children's hospital Milwaukee WI

I leave an opening for 2 buttons on the back side of the pattern. I do the round and join after about 2 inches.
