GAUGE:
24 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib (over even number of sts)
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * across. Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.
NOTES:
Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
SHRUG
Cast on 216 sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 2 in. (5 cm) from beg.
Change to St st (k on RS, p on WS) and work until piece measures 24 in. (61 cm) from beg.
Work in K1, p1 Rib until piece measures 26 in. (66 cm) from beg.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Fold piece in half, bringing cast-on and bound-off edges together, to measure 36 x 13 in. (91.5 x 33 cm). Place markers on each of the 13 in. (33 cm) sides, 7 in. (18 cm) below fold for armholes. Seam each side from marker down to lower edge. Weave in ends.

I was very disappointed with this pattern, I double checked my measurements and had even used a size larger needle but it does not fit at all. I haven't knitted in awhile and thought this would be an easy one to do. I was really looking forward to wearing it too. Guess I'll have to rip it all out and save the yarn for another project. :(
