Lion Brand® Baby's First®

16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Seed Stitch (over an even number of sts)
Row 1:
*K1, p1; rep from * across.
Row 2: P the knit sts, and k the purl sts.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Seed st.

Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

With A, cast on 120 sts.
Rows 1-6: Work in Seed st.
Row 7 (RS): With A, work in Seed st as established over first 5 sts for border, place marker (pm), k to last 5 sts, pm, work in Seed st as established over last 5 sts for border.
Row 8: With A, work in Seed st as established over first 5 sts, slip marker (sm), purl to last 5 sts, sm, work in Seed st as established over last 5 sts.
Continue as established, working sts outside of markers (the first and last 5 sts) in Seed st, the remaining sts in St st (k on RS, p on WS), changing color as follows:
Rows 9 and 10: With A.
Rows 11-28: With B.
Rows 29-32: With C.
Rows 33-42: With D.
Rows 43 and 44: With B.

Mellow Tones Throw Reviewed by on 2011-12-31 ***
This blanket came out really pretty minus two small mistakes I made in my border and an issue with the pattern. The pattern issue I had was the same as another reviewer, my blanket came out rectangular even though my tension was good the entire time and I followed the pattern exactly. The dimensions I had is 34 inches wide and 28 inches long. So maybe if you only cast on 110 st instead of 120 and then add some more rows to the end this would be 32x32. I may pull the border out and add more rows to the end to make this 34x34 at some point.
