7 sts = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch; rep from * across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through sts of last row and pull to gather. Knot securely.
Sew seam. Weave in ends.

Einstein Hat Reviewed by Lidia Solis on 2014-09-08
I liked the final result. Yarn was a little hard to get used since it is bulky- but VERY forgiving! Great as a beginner hat because minor mistakes can't be seen. The dc actually look like popcorn stitch through out the hat- so it gave it a nice texture. I don't sew- but since the yarn is forgiving, no big deal- it hides the seam and mistakes great!
