11 sts + 6 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Ends of Scarf will not match exactly. The beg end of Scarf (at Row 1) will have a straight, ch edge. Then opposite end of Scarf will have a scalloped edge.

Fortuna Scarf Reviewed by Miho on 2010-12-04 *****
If you want the scarf to look the same on both ends, just continue the pattern using the beginning free chain, and work both sides until they are as long as you want it. I used only one 7 ounce ball, pulling yarn from both ends and it is plenty long to wrap around my neck. Love this pattern!
