GAUGE:

2 1/2 pattern reps = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
sc4tog (sc 4 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. (Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop) 3 times. Yarn over, draw through all 5 loops on hook – 3 sts decreased.

Charming Chapeau Reviewed by Erin Ingram on 2012-01-23 *****
Really easy pattern. Loved the way it turned out, and it's warm! I went back and did a tighter trim of just slip stitches around the base. Felt a bit loose, but that did the trick! One ball of Chunky was enough even for the longer version of the hat pattern.
