GAUGE:
14 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with C. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. Scarf is worked in St st (k on RS, p on WS). Scarf is designed so that edges will softly roll.
2. Scarf in knit as a long strip. If desired, you can seam cast on and bound off ends together to form cowl as for versions A and B.
SCARF
With B, cast on 67 sts. Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) in stripe sequence as follows:
*Work 16 rows with B, 18 rows with A, 12 rows with C, 8 rows with B, 10 rows with A, 6 rows with C, 10 rows with B, 6 rows with C; repeat from * for stripe sequence.
Work 86 row stripe sequence for a total of 4 times. Bind off, leaving a long yarn tail.
