GAUGE:

16 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

K2, p2 Rib worked in the rnd (multiple of 4 sts) Rnd 1: *K2, p2, rep from * around. Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 Rib worked in the rnd.

NOTES:

1. Socks are worked in the round, so every rnd of Chart should be read from right to left.
2. When following Chart, carry color not in use across wrong side of work.
3. Crochet hook is used for single crochet trim around heel slit. If desired, you may embroider blanket st around elbow slit instead of working crochet trim.

SOCK (make 2)
Beg at upper edge of Sock, with A, cast on 36 sts. Divide sts onto 3 needles. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in K2, p2 Rib worked in the rnd until piece measures 3/4 in. (2 cm) from beg. Change to St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd).
Next Rnd (Chart Rnd 1): With B, *k7, k2tog, rep from * around – 32 sts at the end of this rnd.
Next Rnd: Beg with Rnd 2, work 8-st rep of Chart around. Continue in St st and Chart as established, until Chart Rnds 1-9 have been worked a total of 4 times, then work Rnds 1-8 once more.
Shape heel slit
Next Rnd (Chart Rnd 9): With A, k10, bind off 16, k to end of rnd.
Next Rnd: With B, knit following Chart Rnd 1 and casting on 16 sts over bound-off sts of previous rnd. Continuing in St st and Chart as established, work Rnds 2-9 of Chart, then work Rnds 1-3 once more.
Next Rnd (Chart Row 4): With B, *k7, knit into front and then back of next st (to increase 1 st), rep from * around – 36 sts. With A, work in K2, p2 Rib worked in the rnd for 3/4 in. (2 cm). Bind off.

FINISHING
From right side, with crochet hook, join A with a slip stitch anywhere along edge of heel slit. Work single crochet evenly spaced around edge of slit. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
