Holiday Card Tree

Lion Brand Alpine Wool - Lion® Wool

GAUGE:

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

NOTES:

1. Tree is felted then shaped over a wire frame.
2. Tree is worked with 2 strands of yarn held tog throughout.

TREE
With larger hook and 2 strands of A held tog, ch 4.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 2, sk 1 ch, sc in last ch.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, 2 sc in ch-sp, sc in last st – 4 sc at the end of this row.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts – 5 sc at the end of this row.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn, sk first st, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st; rep from * across to last st, dc in last st.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in next st, *sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in next st; rep from * across, sc in top of turning ch – 6 sts at end of this row.
Rows 6-9: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each sc across – 10 sts at the end of Row 9.
Row 10: Ch 3, turn, sk first st, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st; rep from * across.
Row 11: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, *sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in next st; rep from * across, sc in top of turning ch – 11 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 12–15: Rep Rows 6-9 – 15 sts at the end of Row 15.
Rep Rows 4-15 four more times – 45 sts when all reps complete.
Rep Rows 4-9 once more – 50 sts when all reps complete. Fasten off.

TRUNK
With larger hook and 2 strands of C held tog, ch 13.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across –12 sc.
Rows 2-7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Fasten off.

STAR
With smaller hook and 2 strands of D held tog, ch 5; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 10 sc in ring; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: *Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, sk next sc of Rnd 1, sl st in next sc of Rnd 1; rep from * around, working last sl st in same sc as join. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew Trunk and Star to Tree. Weave in ends.
Felting
Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. Remove from washer and pull into shape. Allow to dry completely. Bend wire into triangle shape, slightly smaller than felted A portion of Tree. Twist ends of wire into a hanging loop at top point. With sewing needle and thread, sew wire frame to wrong side of Tree. Bows With smaller hook and 1 strand of B, make a ch about 15 in. (38 cm) long for each bow. Fasten off. Weave in ends.Thread through ch-sps, then through holes punched in greeting card and tie in a bow to attach Tree to card.
