11 dc = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), turn. Working in front loops only, dc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn. Working in back loops only, dc in each st across.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures about 50 in. (127 cm) from beginning.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to seam ends.
Seam ends to make a loop. Weave in ends.

Made this one in Lagoon. Found it was too wide so made it 33 stitches across instead of 43. Hard wool to work with as you can't see the stitches clearly. Also wasn't too pleased with the quality - found two strands knotted together inside the ball, and that it was 'unraveled ' in many places. Pretty colour though and a very warm scarf.
