Lion Brand® Hometown USA®
1 pattern repeat (2 shells) = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
|dc2tog This decrease is worked in 3 steps as follows:
Step 1: Yarn over, insert hook into next st or ch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops (first half of dc2tog complete);
Step 2: Yarn over, insert hook into st or ch indicated in pattern (you will be skipping chs or sts) and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through 2 loops (second half of dc2tog complete);
Step 3: Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook – dc2tog complete and 1 st has been decreased.
shell (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in indicated st or ch-sp.
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch (shell made), dc2tog working first half in next ch, sk 3 ch, work second half of dc2tog in next ch, shell in next ch, dc2tog working first half in next ch, sk 1 ch, work second half of dc2tog in last ch – 2 pattern repeats have been worked at the end of Row 1.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, sk first 2 sts, dc in next dc, shell in next ch-2 sp, dc2tog working first half in next dc, sk next 3 dc, work second half of dc2tog in next dc, shell in next ch-2 sp, dc2tog working first half in next dc and second half of dc2tog in top of turning ch.
