GAUGE:
20 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Simply Stockinette Hat Reviewed by Amanda on 2012-12-31
This did not turn out anything like the picture. The ribbing is the same width as the rest of the hat, looking like an ordinary toque, fairly tight against my head. Very disappointed as whatever she is wearing looks so pretty and unlike other styles.
When I tried it to 7 inches, it actually turned out to look like the picture for the Camelot Hat pattern, which I do not like.
