GAUGE: 12 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) with 2 strands of yarn held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

| I've given away almost everything I've made, but this one I made for myself. My mother's name was Ruby, so that was an easy choice for me. I enjoyed knitting it and watching the development of the color pattern. I did make mine narrower than the pattern and I'm glad I did. One unexpected benefit is how neutral this cowl is. It goes with so many more things than I expected, so, I wear it a lot.
