STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

ROOSTER
BODY (make 2)

With A, ch 7.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 4 ch, 2 sc in last ch – 8 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 6 sts, work 2 sc in last st – 10 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc in first st, sc in each st to last st, work 2 sc in last st – 12 sts.
Rows 4-8: Rep Row 3 – 22 sts at the end of Row 8.
Rows 9-20: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 21: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 22: Ch 4, turn. Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 2 ch, sc in each of next 22 sts – 28 sts.
Row 23: Ch 1, turn, sc in each of next 26 sts, leaving last 2 sts unworked – 26 sts.
Row 24: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 24 sts – 25 sts.
Row 25: Ch 1, turn, sc in each of next 23 sts, sc2tog – 24 sts.
Row 26: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 22 sts – 23 sts.
Row 27: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 19 sts, sc2tog – 21 sts.

WING
With A, ch 2.
Row 1: Work 4 sc in the first ch – 4 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, work 2 sc in each st across – 8 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, work *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * across – 12 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, work *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * across – 18 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, work *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * across – 22 sts. Fasten off.

BEAK
With B, ch 6.
Row 1: Work 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 ch, work 2 hdc in last ch. Fasten off.

FINISHING
With wrong sides of the Body pieces held together, and working through both thicknesses, join A with a sl st anywhere along outside edge. Work sc evenly spaced around to join pieces. At end of rnd, join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off. Sew Wing to Body. With black yarn, embroider a French knot eye. Sew Beak to side of body.
Hanging loop
Join C with sl st at top of Body. Ch 10, sl st in same st as join, ch 15, sl st in same sp, ch 10, sl st in same sp. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

I made these for my nieces & my nephews' wives for Easter and they all thought that they were adorable. I also made one for myself.
