SQUARE I (make 3)
Section 1
With A, ch 12.
Row 1 (WS): Dc in 4th ch from hook (beg ch counts as dc), and in each ch across – 10 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 2-5: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), turn, dc in each st across. Change to B in last st of Row 5.
Section 2
Row 6: With B, ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Rows 7-10: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Section 3
Continue with B.
Row 11: Ch 3, do not turn, work 19 dc evenly spaced across side of Sections 2 and 1 – 20 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 12-15: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to C in last st of Row 15.
Section 4
Row 16: With C, ch 3, do not turn, work 19 sc evenly spaced across side of Section 3, and opposite side of foundation ch of Section 1 – 20 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 17-20: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Section 5
Continue with C.
Row 21: Ch 3, do not turn, work 29 dc evenly spaced across side of Sections 4, 1 and 2 – 30 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 22-25: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to B in last st of Row 25.
Section 6
Row 26: With B, ch 3, do not turn, work 29 dc evenly spaced across side of Section 5, top of Section 2, and side of Section 3 – 30 dc at the end of this row.
Rows 27-30: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Section 7
Continue with B.
Row 31: Ch 3, do not turn, work 39 dc evenly spaced across side of Section 6, top of Section 3, and side of Section 4 – 40 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 32-35: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to C in last st of Row 35.
Section 8
Row 36: With C, do not turn, ch 3, work 39 dc evenly across side of Section 7, top of Section 4, and side of Section 5 – 40 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 37-40: Ch 3, turn, dc in each dc across.
Section 9
Continue with C.
Row 41: Ch 3, do not turn, work 49 dc evenly across side of Section 8, top of Section 5, and side of Section 6 – 50 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 42-45: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Fasten off.
SQUARE II (make 3)
Section 1
With B, ch 12.
Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook (beg ch counts as dc), dc in each ch across – 10 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 2-5: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), turn, dc in each st across (including in top of turning ch). Change to D in last st of Row 5.
Section 2
With D, work same as Section 2 of Square I.
Section 3
Continue with D, work same as Section 3 of Square I. Change to A in last st of last row.
Section 4
With A, work same as Section 4 of Square I. Change to C in last st of last row.
Section 5
Row 21: With C, ch 3, do not turn, work 29 dc evenly across side of Sections 4, 1 and 2 – 30 sts at the end of this row.
Row 22: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to A.
Rows 23-25: With A, ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to D in last st of Row 25.
Section 6
With D, work same as Section 6 of Square I.
Section 7
Continue with D, work same as Section 7 of Square I. Change to A in last st of last row.
Section 8
Row 36: With A, ch 3, do not turn, work 39 dc evenly across side of Section 7, top of Section 4, and side of Section 5 – 40 sts at the end of this row.
Row 37: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to B.
Row 38: With B, Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Row 39: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across. Change to A.
Row 40: With A, ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
Section 9
Continue with A, work same as Section 9 of Square I. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew squares together following Assembly Diagram, using yarn to match color of edges of one of the Squares being joined.
Edging
From RS, join D with sl st in any corner of Afghan, ch 1, sc evenly around, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
