Enchanting Hood

Lion Brand® Fishermen's Wool®

GAUGE:

11 sts + 30 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Brioche Rib with larger needle and 2 strands if yarn held tog. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HOOD
Crown

Holding two strands tog and beginning at face edge, with circular needle, cast on 19 (21) sts. Working back and forth on circular needle, as if working on straight needles, work in Brioche Rib for 46 (54) rows. Piece should measure about 6 (7 1/4) in. (15 (18.5) cm) from beg. Sl sts to holder and cut yarn.
Hood
From RS with circular needle, pick up and k22 (26) sts along right side edge of Crown (working towards sts on holder), cut yarn, sl 19 (21) sts from st holder to circular needle, rejoin yarn and pick up and k22 (26) sts along left side edge of Crown – 63 (73) sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Beg with Row 2 of Brioche Rib, work until Hood measures 9 (9 1/2) in. (23 (24) cm) from beg, end with a RS row.
Decrease Row (WS): [P1, k1] 7 times, [p3tog, k1] 9 (11) times, [p1, k1] 6 (7) times, p1 – 45 (51) sts.
Neckband
Change to smaller needles, and work in K1, p1 Rib for 8 rows.
Cape
Change to circular needle.
Increase Row (RS): K1, p1, *(k into front, back and front) of next st, p1; rep from * to last st, k1 – 87 (99) sts.
Next Row (WS): Work Row 1 of Brioche Rib.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 of Brioche Rib until piece measures 6 (7 1/2) in. (15 (19) cm) from neckband. Bind off loosely.

FINISHING
With crochet hook, join yarn with sl st on lower right edge of neckband, chain 8, sl st in same place as join to make a button loop. Make a second button loop just above first. Sew on buttons. Weave in ends.

I am a decently experienced knitter but I hadn't done the Brioche pattern before, this is the most difficult to understand explanation of Brioche EVER. If you're going to be doing Brioche for the first time, ignore the stitch explanation for it and go to YouTube to learn it.
