Colleen's Delight Afghan
Lion Brand® Wool-Ease®
GAUGE:
18 sts + 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
Seed Stitch (over an odd number of sts)
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * across to last st, k last st.
Rep Row 1 for Seed st.
NOTES:
Afghan is worked in 3 strips. Strips are seamed together, then sts are picked up to work a Seed st border along all sides.

FINISHING
With Strips in numerical order, 1-2-3, seam together along long sides.
Side Borders
Notes:
1. Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
2. The number of sts picked up worked well on our afghan – you may need to adjust this number slightly for your own Afghan. You can determine the number of sts to pick up by working a border on a St st swatch. Divide the number of sts you picked up on the swatch by the length of the swatch to determine the number of sts you should pick up per inch (cm).
From RS with circular needle and D, pick up and k220 sts evenly spaced along one long side of Afghan. Work in Seed st for 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm). Bind off.
In same way, work border along opposite side edge of Afghan.
End Borders
From RS with circular needle and D, pick up and k198 sts evenly spaced along one end of Throw including ends of side borders. Work in Seed st for 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm). Bind off.
In same way, work border along opposite end of Afghan.
Weave in ends.

Colleen's Delight Afghan Reviewed by Joanne on 2010-07-29
I loved making this afghan for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. My daughter-in-law picked the pattern. It is weird when you start. You do not know how it will all come together. I did change a few things in the pattern. I eliminated the k1p1 at the beginning of each row (I will update this later with my changes). It just did not look nice. Then I added the pattern between the solid colors. It is a soft blanket and looks great on her "big girl bed". I may make it again for her baby bother in different colors.
