Lion Brand® Hometown USA®
6 1/2 sts + 5 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size
specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be
sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what
the designer used, but is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller
size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Making a Gauge Swatch
1. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over; yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st.
2. Do not cut old color, carry unused along side edge of work.
Work 2 rows with A and 2 rows with B alternately for Stripe Sequence.
With A, ch 33.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch; rep from * across, end with a dc in last ch – 32 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * across, change to B in last st.
Continue to rep Row 2, changing color following Stripe Sequence, until piece measures about 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through remaining sts; pull to gather sts together and fasten off. Use remaining tail to seam sides of piece.
With A, ch 11.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch; rep from * across – 10 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * across, changing to B in last st.
Continue to Rep Row 2, following Stripe Sequence, until piece measures about 50 in. (127 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
