1.Back, Fronts, and Sleeves are worked from the lower edge upwards as separate pieces. These pieces are then seamed and stitches are picked up around the entire outer edge of the cardigan for the ribbed border. Short rows are worked across a portion of the border to create the shawl collar.
2. If desired, Back, Fronts, and Sleeves can be worked back and forth on circular needle, eliminating the need for straight needles.
3. Cardigan is knit with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout.

Soft Rib Cardigan

GAUGE: 20 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) over Slip Rib pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

| Soft Rib Cardigan Reviewed by Liz Chanasyk on 2012-03-06 |

The 2 strands of yarn give this the qualities of a bulky yarn garment. The picture really doesn't show that. A little bit more stiff than many other cardigans, more jacket-like.
The pattern is a bit vague in a few places, so you have to use common sense. Proper needle size is quite important here.
Over all, I would not recommend this to a beginner!
It is very warm, from the wool, and quite classic due to the natural colours. The ribbing creates a very dignified finish.
