GAUGE:

8 double crochet = about 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Turning chains do not count as stitches.
2. If your stitch count differs slightly from pattern, your Scarf will still ruffle.

Flirty Ruffle Scarf Reviewed by Janet Hamilton on 2014-03-29 *****
I've noticed people say it doesn't look like the picture. You have to continue on with the increases, to get the same look. If you notice the measurements, you can tell that the rows had to be continues to get it 5 inches wide. After row 4, instead of 4 double crochets and 2 double crochets in one stitch, I added 5 and 2 and so on. I stopped at 6, but I think I will stop at 5 next time. It came out really nice!
