GAUGE:
8 double crochet = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. Turning chains do not count as stitches.
2. If your stitch count differs slightly from pattern, your Scarf will still ruffle.
SCARF
Ch 72. Row 1: Double crochet in 4th chain from hook, *double crochet in next chain, 2 double crochet in next chain; repeat from * across - 103 double crochet at the end of this row. Row 2: Chain 3, turn, double crochet in first double crochet, *double crochet in each of next 2 stitches, 2 double crochet in next stitch; repeat from * across. Row 3: Chain 3, turn, double crochet in first double crochet, *double crochet in each of next 3 stitches, 2 double crochet in next stitch; repeat from * across. Row 4: Chain 3, turn, double crochet in first double crochet, *double crochet in each of next 4 stitches, 2 double crochet in next stitch; repeat from * across.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Thick yarn makes this pattern very tricky. Also I do not think it is nearly long enough. Maybe doubled it would work nicely- but as written it is barely to mid chest just draped over my neck (and I'm VERY petite!). Great idea, but I'd start out chaining atleast 172!! Not 72.
