Yorkshire Cowl
Lion Brand® Hometown USA®
GAUGE: 6 single crochet = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

COWL
Chain 37. Being careful not to twist the chain, join the end of the chain to the beginning with a slip stitch to make a ring. Work in rounds, always joining last stitch of each round to the first stitch of the round with a slip stitch.
Round 1: Work a single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain around.
Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), turn, work a double crochet in each stitch around.
Round 3: Chain 1, turn, work a single crochet in each stitch around.
Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 until piece measures about 8 1/2 in. (21.5 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.

| Love this pattern! I was looking for a scarf pattern just for something quick to do, and saw a bunch of cowls... To be honest I thought the idea was odd- why not just wrap a scarf? Well since this only called for one ball of yarn and other reviewers said it was quick and easy, I tried it anyway. At first I had trouble joining the rounds and I missed that the pattern said to turn at the end of each round, but about 5 rows into it I realized what I needed to do and frogged it since it had gone very quickly up to that point. (Worked as a good gauge check anyway.) Once I started doing it correctly, it was fast and awesome. The Hometown USA is a great yarn for a cozy piece like this. I will like to try adding a few more chains and making it a little taller as well as the snuggly hood idea other reviews had sounds neat. It's summer now, but I can definitely see coming back to this pattern in the winter, especially when I need to see some results finished in between the usual dreadfully slow mittens I knit every winter. If you're on the fence about trying this pattern my suggestion is to go for it! Minimal time and materials wasted if you don't like it, but you probably will!
