GAUGE:
12 single crochet + 15 rows = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
HAT Leaving a long tail, chain 55.
Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across – 54 stitches.
Row 2: Chain 1, turn. Single crochet in each stitch across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures about 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
FINISHING Thread tail into blunt needle, then sew in and out along last row. Pull (like a drawstring) to gather top of hat and knot. Sew seam. Weave in ends.
I made this pattern no problem, as is. You have to check our gauge and make sure you allot for a different hook size or different brand of yarn if, like me, you don't have access to any Lion Brand yarns.
