First Fall Knit Hat
Lion Brand® Vanna's Choice®
GAUGE:
14 stitches + 28 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter Stitch (knit every stitch on every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
HAT Leaving a long tail, cast on 64 stitches.
Work in Garter Stitch (knit every stitch on every row) until piece measures about 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning.
Bind off, leaving a long tail.
FINISHING Thread cast-on tail into blunt needle, then sew seam. Thread tail from bound-off edge into blunt needle, then sew in and out along last row. Pull (like a drawstring) to gather top of hat and knot. Weave in ends.
This beanie is warm and cozy. Instead of binding off, you could just feed the yarn through the stitches and pull together, saves a step there. I added two Pom poms on the extra pieces of yarn which were attached. Tied them together and it looks a lot nicer than just the plain beanie. If I were to do it again I would probably make it a bit longer still. I did 60 stitches and fits great.
