16 sc + 18 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Fall Nesting Bowls Reviewed by Sandra Patrick on 2013-03-11 *****
I made these in an afternoon and am pleased with results.
About halfway through the sides of the large and medium bowls I reduced the number of stitches for one row and this firmed up the shape a bit more. This might not have been needed with different wool so something to keep in mind. I also crocheted a flower for the large bowl. Will try to post a picture once I work out how!

This is a good pattern that can be adjusted to suit whatever you want to use it for. Will definitely make more.
