GAUGE:
One 3-dc group = 1 in. (2.5 cm) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over; yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook. Fasten off old color.

I am a beginner at crochet and this was the first pattern I was able to follow!! It was actually square when I finished! The instructions were easy to follow and I used the colors recommended (while very pretty the colors appear more muted than the picture). I'm working on my second one now and chose a pink with a little more pep. The only alteration I made was I had to use a J size hook to get the proper measurements. I will attach a pic if I can.
