GAUGE:

18 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Seed st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Sl next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog. sk2p Sl 1 as if to knit, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over—2 sts decreased. PATTERN STITCHES Lace Stitch (over 33 sts) Row 1 and all WS rows: Purl. Row 2 (RS): Ssk, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sk2p, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2, yo, sk2p, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sk2p, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k2, yo, k2tog. Row 4: Ssk, k3, yo, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, yo, k3, sk2p, k3, yo, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, yo, k3, k2tog. Row 6: Ssk, (k2, yo) twice, k2tog, k1, ssk, (yo, k2) twice, sk2p, (k2, yo) twice, k2tog, k1, ssk, (yo, k2) twice, k2tog. Row 8: Ssk, k1, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, yo, k3, yo, k1, sk2p, k1, yo, k3, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, yo, k3, yo, k1, k2tog. Rep Rows 1-8 for Lace st. Seed Stitch (over an even number of sts) Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end. Row 2: P the knit sts, and k the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for Seed st. Seed Stitch (over an odd number of sts) Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end. Row 2: P the knit sts, and k the purl sts. Rep Row 2 for Seed st.

NOTES:

Throw is worked in separate panels to compensate for the differences in gauge between Lace st and Seed st.

THROW
LACE PANEL (make 3)
Cast on 33 sts. Work in Lace st until piece measures 32 in. (81.5 cm) from beg. Bind off.

SEED ST PANEL (make 2)
Cast on 20 sts. Work in Seed st until piece measures 32 in. (81.5 cm) from beg. Bind off.

FINISHING
Arrange Panels with long edges tog in the following order: Lace Panel, Seed St Panel, Lace Panel, Seed St Panel, Lace Panel. Sew panels tog along long edges.
SIDE PANEL (make 2)
Cast on 6 sts. Work in Seed st until piece measures 32 in. (81.5 cm) from beg. Bind off. Sew a border to each side of Throw along Lace Panels.
Border
From RS, working across top edge of Throw, pick up and k 1 st in each Seed st border and panel and 31 sts across each Lace st Panel – 145 sts picked up across top edge. Work in Seed st until border measures about 1 1/2 in. (4 cm). Bind off. Rep across lower edge of Throw. Weave in ends.
