GAUGE:
20 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern stitch. EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SHAWL Cast on 81 stitches.
Row 1: Knit 1, *purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * across.
Row 2: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until about 2 yds (2 m) of yarn remains. Bind off.

I knitted this Shawl in "Wildflowers". It's gorgeous and I gave it to a special co-worker for her Birthday. While I was knitting it, many people commented on how beautiful the colors were. I also cast on half as many stitches and knitted the same pattern as a Scarf for Men, one in "Olympia" and one in "Olive Medley" (using 3 skeins each). The scarves look expensive.
