GAUGE:
18 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
kfb (knit into front and then back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st — 1 st increased.
SCARF Cast on 2 sts.
Row 1 (Inc Row): K to last st, kfb in last st – 3 sts.
Rows 2-25: Rep Row 1 – 27 sts at end of Row 25.
Row 26 (Decrease Row): K to last 2 sts, k2tog – 26 sts.
Rows 27-38: Rep Row 26 – 14 sts at end of Row 38.
Rows 39-51: Rep Row 1 – 27 sts at end of Row 51.
Rows 52-64: Rep Row 26 – 14 sts at end of Row 64.
Rep Rows 39-64 until piece measures about 60 in. (152.5 cm) from beginning, end with a Row 64.
Rep Row 26 until 2 sts rem.
Next Row: K2tog.
Fasten off.
FINISHING Weave in ends.

This makes a wonderful gift for small girls. It it also a good pattern for new knitters to learn increase and decrease in knitting. I have made one and plan to make a few more for all the little girls I know.
