GAUGE: 6 single crochet = 4 in (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Chain 29.
Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, double crochet in next chain, *single crochet in next chain, double crochet in next chain; repeat from * across, end with a double crochet in last chain – 28 stitches.
Row 2: Chain 1, turn, *single crochet in next double crochet, double crochet in next single crochet; repeat from * across.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9 in. (23 cm) from beginning. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Thread yarn through stitches along one long edge and pull to gather for top of Hat. Knot securely. Seam ends of piece to make Hat. Weave in ends.
Following package direction, make pom-pom and tie to top of Hat.
