Washed Ashore Afghan

Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

Rnds 1-2 = about 4 in. (10 cm) across. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

inc-shell Work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in indicated ch-sp.

NOTES:

Afghan is worked in rnds, changing color every 3 rnds.

AFGHAN
With A, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in ring, ch 1, (2 dc in ring, ch 1) 7 times; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 8 ch-sps at end of rnd.
Rnd 2: Sl st to first ch-sp, ch 3, dc in same ch-sp, ch 2, (2 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2) 7 times; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 3: Sl st to first ch-sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same ch-sp, ch 1, *inc-shell in next ch-sp, ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 16 ch-sps at end of rnd. Fasten off A.
Rnd 4: Join B with sl st in any ch-sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-sp, ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 5: Sl st to first ch-sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-sp, ch 2, *3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 3 - 32 ch-sps at end of rnd. Fasten off B.
Rnds 7-9: Join C with sl st in any ch-sp, rep Rnds 4-6 - 64 ch-sps at end of Rnd 9.
Fasten off C.
Rnds 10 and 11: Join D, rep Rnds 4 and 5.
Rnd 12: With D, rep Rnd 5. Fasten off D.
Rnd 13: Join A with sl st in any ch-sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-sp, ch 2, *3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 14: With A, rep Rnd 5.
Rnd 15: Sl st to first ch-sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-sp, ch 2, (3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2) twice, inc-shell in next ch-sp, ch 2, *(3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2) 3 times, inc-shell in next ch-sp, ch 2; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch - 80 ch-sps at end of rnd. Fasten off A.
Rnd 16: Join B, rep Rnd 13.
Rnds 17 and 18: With B, rep Rnd 5 twice. Fasten off B.
