GAUGE:
14 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (knit on RS, purl on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SOLID COLOR POMPOM NAPKIN RING With D, cast on 16 sts.
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 18 rows.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Pompom With 1 strand each of A, B and C held together and following package directions, make a small pompom. Tie pompom to center of Napkin Ring.
Weave in ends.
STRIPED NAPKIN RING
STRIPE SEQUENCE (Work 2 rows with C, work 2 rows with A) 4 times, work 2 rows with C.
With C, cast on 16 sts.
Work in St st, Following Stripe Sequence.
Bind off.
STAR SQUARE With B, cast on 6 sts.
Work in St st for 8 rows.
Bind off.
Sew square to center of Napkin Ring. With A, embroider a straight stitch star centered on square. Sew seam. Weave in ends.
